Justin Does….New York City

There is no better weekend getaway than The Big Apple. Sightseeing, shopping, dining, theater, you name it: The City That Never Sleeps has it all. Below are some of the places and things I do every time I am in New York City.

1. SEE: The High Line, built on an old elevated freight train line, is a public park above the city streets. Grasses, trees, flowers, benches line the winding pathways. Rain or shine {well, mostly shine}, the High Line is always a refreshing experience.

2. EAT: In the heart of SoHo is the Mercer Hotel and in the basement you’ll find the Mercer Kitchen. After spending an afternoon shopping, head down to the Mercer Kitchen for a late lunch or an early happy hour. The cocktails go down easy and you can always find something on the menu to nibble on.

3. SIP: The Lobby Lounge of the Mandarin Oriental New York is on the 35th floor of the hotel. Enjoy breathtaking views of Central Park while having High Tea or one of the many signature cocktails. My favorites include the Asian Poire martini or the Bella Pesca {think bubbles and lychee juice}.

4. DO: Want an amazing view of the skyline? Skip the Empire State Building and instead, head to the Top of the Rock. Atop the GE Building in Rockefeller Center, you’ll have a 360o view of Manhattan, including views the Empire State Building. Tip: Buy your tickets online and reserve a time to take the elevator to the top {no waiting in line!}

5. STAY: W New York {on Lexington}. Hands down, the best hotel in Midtown. The W New York is close to the subway and is in walking distance to the Theater District, Times Square, and Rockefeller Center. The vibrant Living Room {W speak for lobby and lobby bar} easily makes up for the small rooms.

GETTING THERE: There is probably no city easier to get to than New York. Almost every city in the United States offers non-stop service to one of the city’s three airports: John F. Kennedy International Airport {JFK}, LaGuardia Airport {LGA}, or Newark Liberty International Airport {EWR}. Insiders Tip: Use Dial 7 Car Service. You will ride in style into the city for around the same cost as a taxi.
